 The Schoolchildren for Children Welsh Three Peaks Challenge and will take in the three peaks of Wales, Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) in the North, Cadair Idris in mid-Wales, and Pen y Fan in the South.
Whilst Snowdon is the highest peak in Wales, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan are much lower, and are chosen for their position rather than height.
The aim is to climb the mountains and travel between them all in a day.
The climb would normally but not necessarily take place on a Saturday.
Timings
- Begin ascent of Penyfan at 05.30 hrs
- Climbing time for Penyfan is 2 hrs
- Begin drive to Cadair Idris at 07.30hrs
- Driving distance between Pen y Fan and Cadair Idris is 2.5 hrs.
- Begin ascent of Cadair Idris at 10.00pm.
- Climbing time for Cadair Idris is 4 hrs.
- Begin drive to Snowdon at 14.00 hrs.
- Driving distance between Cadair Idris and Snowdon is 1.5 hrs.
- Begin climb of Snowdon at 15.30 hrs.
- Climbing time for Snowdon is 4 hrs.
- Complete challenge by 19.30 hrs.
- Total time 14 hrs.
These timings for the Challenge are estimated but realistic.
Having completed the Challenge, the group stays overnight in a hotel in Llanberis enjoying a celebratory team meal before dispersing the following morning.
Participants in the Challenge need to be well prepared and in good physical shape though no previous climbing experience is essential.
