The implications of young people learning these basic skills are wide-ranging as they take what they have learnt back into their communities. For example, as a direct benefit of Improved Cooking Stoves, young women can spend less time cooking and more time on other activities such as participating in extra-curricular clubs. Additionally, they have removed the hazardous situation of working in fumes and smoke.
The results so far:
Among other exciting developments, Gyanodaya Secondary School an Janta Secondary Schools have built incinerators and rubbish bins. The Youth clubs have taken responsibility for maintaining them and both have already improved the appearance of the grounds as well as giving an much improved environment to play in.
Kitchen gardens have also been built in and students and community members are benefiting from an improved diet of green vegetables and fruits. |
